If Smith’s 2022 outlook could be summed up in a picture, it would be Will Smith standing in the empty living room in the last episode of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. The cupboard is absolutely bare from Louisiana’s 2021 conference championship team, with its head coach (Billy Napier), quarterback (Levi Lewis), two feature running backs (Montrell Johnson and Emani Bailey) and team leader in receiving touchdowns (Kyren Lacy) all having moved on from Lafayette. Smith is the only remaining star at running back from the Ragin’ Cajuns Sun Belt title squad, and is in a great position to put up big numbers as first year head coach Michael Desormeaux breaks in a new quarterback. While he is nursing a knee injury right now that has limited his participation in spring practices, he could be a major factor if healthy.
