January 4, 2012
Blackmon stated after Oklahoma State's bowl game against Stanford that he will declare for the 2012 NFL Draft.
ANALYSIS
Blackmon had one of the absolute best seasons for a college receiver ever in 2010, catching 111 passes for 1,782 yards and 20 touchdowns, running for 77 yards and a touchdown and returning a blocked punt for a touchdown in 12 games. He followed it up with another dominant showing in 2011, catching 113 passes for 1,336 yards and 15 scores through 12 games before exploding for an additional 186 yards and three touchdowns against Stanford. Barring unforeseen developments, Blackmon is a lock for the first round and is similarly likely to go in the first 15 picks. Blackmon isn't a burner and isn't huge (6-foot-1, 215 pounds), but he's a solid athlete all around and is exceptionally skilled at fighting for the football. Unlike his former Oklahoma State teammate, Dez Bryant, there isn't much smoke here as far as character goes, either (Blackmon was arrested for a misdemeanor DUI complaint in Texas in 2010, but it's worth noting that Texas law gives an automatic DUI charge to anyone under 21 who drives with any amount of alcohol in their system -- Blackmon was not accused of driving impaired, per se, in other words).

Past Fantasy Outlooks

2010
The loss of offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen is definitely concerning, but it’d take a real daredevil to rank Blackmon anywhere but No. 1 after he totaled 1,859 yards from scrimmage and 22 total touchdowns last year. Last year’s performance was one of the absolute best ever by a college receiver—no one could come close to stopping him. His worst game of last year saw him total eight catches for 105 yards and a touchdown.
Blackmon caught 20 passes for 260 yards and a touchdown as a freshman last year, and he's a good bet to at least triple that production this year. Former Houston and Texas Tech offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen is calling the shots with the Oklahoma State offense, so the numbers are about to get ridiculous in the passing game. Blackmon shouldn't be too high of a pick because there's a bunch of Cowboys receivers who could breakout this year, but his value is especially good in Big 12-only leagues. He's probably only worth monitoring in other formats.
