Parts ways with Connecticut
Head coach Randy Edsall announced Monday that Hopkins has left the Connecticut program and intends to transfer to another school, Alex Putterman of the Hartford Courant reports.
ANALYSIS
Hopkins was expected to fill a key role as the Huskies' top short-yardage back during his sophomore season after registering a team-best seven touchdowns in 2017 to go with 343 yards on 92 carries. According to Edsall, Hopkins envisioned himself as a three-down player, so the running back will presumably look to join a program where he can carve out a bigger role. Hopkins' departure will leave Donevin O'Reilly, Zavier Scott and Kevin Mensah as Connecticut's primary options in the backfield in 2018.
