Tight ends simply aren’t a huge part of college offenses these days, but Minnesota has been able to turn out quality tight ends over the past few years and Lingen is no exception. The 6-5, 247-pound Lingen wasted no time filling the void at the position left by 2014’s top tight end, Maxx Williams. Though Lingen doesn’t have the same sort of athleticism as Williams, he’s an extremely reliable option in the passing game that caught 67% of the passes thrown in his direction last season. He finished third on the team in receptions (33) and targets (49) while tying for second on the team in touchdowns (3). Now that Minnesota’s most-targeted wideout, KJ Maye, is gone, Lingen could have an even bigger role in the offense this season as Mitch Leidner’s most trusted option in the short-to-intermediate passing game.
