Past Fantasy Outlooks
2013
2012
In 10 starts for Houston as a sophomore last season, Piland threw for 2,929 yards, 16 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. He also added 190 yards and two touchdowns rushing on 45 carries. It’s a high-volume passing attack (40.7 attempts per game). Moreover, the team further bolstered its receiving corps by adding former USC wideout Markeith Ambles, who was ranked as ESPN’s No. 23 player from the Class of 2010. Piland impressed this spring, throwing four touchdowns in the spring game, and it looks like his job as starter is fairly secure, but Billy Cosh and John O’Korn will be nipping at his heels this summer.
If running quarterbacks worry you, then you might want to rank Barkley as the top quarterback. He won't take nearly as many hits as a pocket passer, but he should nonetheless make a push for 45 total touchdowns in 2012. Coach Lane Kiffin is not averse to running up the score, and the Pac-12 is full of weak defenses that have no prayer of keeping up with USC's best-in-the-nation receiver duo of Robert Woods and Marqise Lee. In addition to being a good bet to hit 40 passing touchdowns, Barkley should add a couple of scores on the ground (he's had two rush TDs each of the last three years).
