Byrd carried the starters' load for the Mean Green in 2012 and had three 100-yard rushing games. Antoine Jimmerson was the more explosive player in the backfield last year, though, so Byrd could end up in a relatively even workload split with Jimmerson, which limits his utility outside of C-USA-only leagues.

Lance Dunbar is gone, leaving a big void at running back for North Texas. Although he is far from established, Byrd is the team's top returning runner after finishing 2011 with 83 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries (4.2 YPC), and he ran for 169 yards and a touchdown (5.0 YPC) in 2010. It would seem like Purdue transfer Reggie Pegram would be the favorite to win the job if the NCAA grants him immediate eligibility, but it's otherwise difficult to see Byrd not starting for North Texas, in which case he would have good value in Sun Belt-only leagues at the least.
