Top-10 ADP Risers: Wide Receivers

Earlier this week we checked in on running back ADP trends. Today, our focus will be the wide receivers -- and there has been substantial movement since games started. Some rookies were impressive in week two of the preseason, leading to optimism among fantasy drafters. A handful of veterans are making their way up the rankings as well, thanks to new opportunities in new cities. Below is a breakdown of the top-10 highest risers among wide receivers in Yahoo (standard) and NFFC (PPR) drafts.

Sammy Watkins (WR, Buf)108.5104.44.1
Rueben Randle (WR, NYG)118.0114.04.0

The top-4 gainers in Yahoo ADP are veterans who were previously going undrafted in most 12-team leagues. Brandon LaFell has impressed coach Bill Belichick and is competing with Danny Amendola, Kenbrell Thompkins and injured Aaron Dobson for playing time next to Julian Edelman. How targets are distributed in New England's high volume offense will be worth monitoring over the last two preseason games.

Miles Austin's value largely depends on whether or not Josh Gordon's suspension is upheld. Not a lot of upside there if Gordon is allowed to play. Kenny Britt, on the other hand, is looking like his old self in St. Louis camp. It's hard to believe the sixth-year receiver is still only 25 years old. To put that in perspective, rookie Kelvin Benjamin, is just two years younger. Britt flirted with greatness in Tennessee under now Rams coach Jeff Fisher. It looks like the enigmatic wide out will get one more shot to realize his potential.

Speaking of Benjamin, he is rising up everybody's draft board due to the fact that he walked into a barren Panthers depth chart and has shown flashes of his ridiculous size/speed combo in preseason games. At the very least, the 6-foot-5, 240-pound receiver should be a redzone weapon for Carolina.

Fellow rookie Brandin Cooks is the belle of the fantasy ball right now. Fantasy owners are hoping that the 5-foot-10 dynamo is more Wes Welker than Tavon Austin. That fact that Drew Brees is throwing Cooks the ball is a huge advantage. At an ADP of  105.1, he's pushing Sammy Watkins (104.4) to be the first rookie receiver off the board in Yahoo leagues.

Like we saw with the running backs, a majority of the top risers in NFFC leagues are rookies. Climbing even higher than Cooks and Benjamin is Marqise Lee of the Jaguars. The former All-American at USC has gone from mostly undrafted to 11th round sleeper in 12-team leagues. Lee is running with the ones in Jacksonville, but has a less than ideal quarterback situation and will have more competition for targets when Cecil Shorts and Allen Robinson get over their hamstring issues.

Two more first-year wide receivers are soaring after standout performances in week two of the preseason. Jordan Matthews and Cody Latimer each possess prototype frames to go along with 4.4 speed. Latimer might have trouble getting on the field behind Demaryius Thomas, Wes Welker and Emmanuel Sanders in Denver. Matthews, however, has a clearer path to playing time. The SEC's all-time leader in receptions and yards lined up as the Eagles No. 3 wide out Thursday night. If Matthews' nine catches for 104 yards last week is any indication, Chip Kelly will move him all over the formation to find favorable matchups.

The Josh Gordon saga couldn't end soon enough for fantasy owners. Unless a settlement is reached, and there are no reports that any talks of the sort have begun,  the third-year man will either be lost for the year or his suspension will be lifted altogether. Judging by his 50 point rise in ADP, more and more people are willing to gamble that Gordon will be available for the fantasy playoffs.
