ADP Trends: Wide Receivers

Now that we are more familiar with the ADP landscape, where players are going and in what formats, it's time to monitor movement during the exhibition season. Wide receivers are up first. They are divided into risers, fallers and players who have fallen off the cliff and are now largely undrafted.

The tables below show NFFC draft data (PPR) from two weeks ago versus today.

Jordan Matthews (WR, Phi)35.227.77.5

There is a symbiotic relationship with these ADP trends. The "next man up" nature of the NFL can be both cruel and rewarding, depending on what side of the MRI a player lands. This is the case for almost everyone on these lists, the Chicago Bears are a prime example. Eddie Royal and Marquess Wilson are seeing a huge bump in ADP after the news of rookie Kevin White's surgery. Devin Funchess becomes a likely No. 1 wide receiver in Carolina with Kelvin Benjamin lost for the season. Corey Brown, who wasn't in draft consideration for most leagues, is now a late-round darling.

Brandon Coleman is a big winner after Saints coach Sean Payton raved about his development in camp. The 6-6, 225-pounder has 4.56 speed and could be in line for some of those touches left by departed Jimmy Graham and Kenny Stills. It is curious, though, that Coleman has traded places with Nick Toon in fantasy drafts, but not on the New Orleans depth chart. It was Toon who ran with the first-team offense (for injured wide out Marques Colston) in exhibition week 1.

Fallers

Amari Cooper (WR, Oak)43.147.4-4.4
Dwayne Bowe (WR, Cle)152.8158.1-5.4
Stedman Bailey (WR, StL)191.4196.8-5.4
Sammy Watkins (WR, Buf)45.350.9-5.5
Michael Floyd (WR, Ari)74.380.6-6.3
Roddy White (WR, Atl)62.369.9-7.5
Cody Latimer (WR, Den)129.6137.4-7.9
Josh Huff (WR, Phi)197.2206.3-9.1
Brian Quick (WR, StL)125.7136.7-11.0
Dorial Green-Beckham (WR, Ten)136.2148.0-11.8
Donte Moncrief (WR, Ind)124.6138.3-13.7
Breshad Perriman (WR, Bal)96.3115.0-18.7
Percy Harvin (WR, Buf)115.6135.3-19.7
Rueben Randle (WR, NYG)115.2139.0-23.8

Judging by all the rookies falling in drafts, it seems the initial shine of these talented players has worn off as training camp wears on. Traditionally, first-year wide receivers don't make a significant impact early in their career. That fact is easy to forget with how much value fantasy owners got from the 2014 class. When injuries hamper their ability to get on the field, climbing the depth chart is that much more difficult. DeVante Parker, Breshad Perriman and Dorial Green-Beckham could still climb up draft boards if they're able to flash over the next three weeks.

In the case of Amari Cooper, we may have just found his ceiling, as the No. 4 overall pick by Oakland is still in the top-50 -- very high for a rookie receiver. In fact, Cooper is being drafted ahead of last year's fourth selection, Sammy Watkins. I have a feeling Watkins will rise again when he starts taking more game reps and the Buffalo quarterback situation becomes clearer. Word out of Bills camp is the second-year man has been a stand-out.

Undrafted

PlayerTwo Weeks  AgoCurrent ADPChange
Jaelen Strong (WR, Hou)190.2---49.8
Cordarrelle Patterson (WR, Min)189.1---50.9
Justin Hunter (WR, Ten)183.4---56.6
Nick Toon (WR, NO)169.3---70.7
Justin Hardy (WR, Atl)164.4---75.6
Doug Baldwin (WR, Sea)162.8---77.2
Marqise Lee (WR, Jax)159.9---80.1
Kevin White (WR, Chi)87.6---152.4
Kelvin Benjamin (WR, Car)32.8---207.2

Most of the major damage in this group is due to injury. Kelvin Benjamin, a former third round choice, is out for the year with a torn ACL. Kevin White will miss significant time following shin surgery, possibly the entire season as well. Marqise Lee's injuries aren't as serious but the nagging variety of his ailments have dogged him since his final season at USC. For others, a strong pre-season performance or tweak of the depth chart could put them back in the good graces of fantasy owners.
