Well, it was an interesting week of DFS for me. It felt weird consistently looking for guys with the WORST recent record to insert into my lineup, but it was fun. Like I said at the beginning, I know that seven days (and actually six because I didn't play Saturday as I was in a softball tournament) isn't enough to prove anything one way or the other. It was just a strategy I had been thinking about and wanted to try out, especially up against the hot-hand guys.
In the end, the Wave Team (hot-hands) jumped out to an early start and the Storm Team just couldn't recover, not even after a 33-point drubbing between the lineups and 84.5-point massacre overall on Sunday:

In addition to being really short in span, this experiment was also made difficult by not being able to use the same guys for both lineups each day. With that in mind, here's a look at the full week's production from the top choices for the Stormy and Wave teams. These were the guys at the bottom and top of the wRC+ charts over the last 14 days when I compiled the list last Monday.
For the Wave Team, they were simply the top guys no matter what. For the Stormy Team, they had to be "established" guys, since the whole point was that I would use them all week thinking they'd start to play at their established levels sooner than later. I never set a firm threshold on what "established" meant, but I think all the guys chosen fit that profile well.

From Thursday through Sunday, the two clubs were separate by just 10 points, but they entered Thursday with a 119-point deficit. The Wave Team was ridiculously strong at the beginning of the week before rapidly dropping back to earth. After 9 double-digit games from the Wave Team on Monday through Wednesday, they had just three from Thursday on.
The Stormy Team was held afloat by Sandoval. They had just 10 double-digit games all week and he had four of them, strung together from Thursday to Sunday when the Stormy Team closed ground on the Wave Team. In the end, it doesn't feel like using either as an over-arching strategy will generate much success. Riding the hot hands went well on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, but the pitching that you can afford with them is… well, flawed.
I'll probably come up with some other DFS strategies that I'll share in this very space. Until then, let's hope games stay dry in this glorious 105-game week that has brought us the gift of day baseball on a Tuesday (a rarity).
