Just a few things that caught my eye:
- One of Patrick Kane or Steven Stamkos had to show up for their team to win. One did. One didn't.
- Duncan Keith. What a horse. His Conn Smythe was unanimous ... as it bloody well should be.
- Three in six. That's a nice ratio. It's not exactly a dynasty, but it's as close as it'll come in this cap era. Wait -- it is a dynasty. Gary Bettman says so.
- Corey Crawford. Any chance people will stop disrespecting him? Thought not.
- The NHL really does up their Cup presentations well ... when the Cup is actually in the arena. Tough day in Chicago with all the flooding. I guess the Cup handlers didn't anticipate that issue.
- Those seats along the glass were going for solid five-figure totals. There will come a day when about 10,000 people say they sat it them. And another 100,000 will have been at the game. And they all got to the arena in canoes, arks and amphibious vehicles. Upstream.
- A buddy of mine cringes every time Marian Hossa plays like an absolute beast (which has been pretty much every playoff game since he donned that Chicago uni). It makes his skin crawl that a Hossa performance like that might have brought the Cup to Ottawa. Or so he thinks.
- Steven Stamkos is the best player on the Lightning, but for how long? He didn't complain about second-line duty or reduced minutes. But how long will that last? He's not one of Jon Cooper's Norfolk Admirals/Syracuse Crunch boys and the coach does seem to play favorites ...
- BTW how long before Coop's decisions and bench management get called into question? Wait -- I just did that, so it didn't take long. The swell will become a tidal wave before long.
- Kris Versteeg's wife had a baby this week. Brent Seabrook's wife is due Friday. What would have happened to the Hawks' D if baby girl Seabrook had decided to arrive early???
- Kimmo Timonen never thought he'd see this day. He hadn't skated in eight months when he was traded to the Hawks and even lacing them up put his life at risk. He played just 3:39 Monday, but his smile was the biggest on the ice. So were the cheers.
- Ben Bishop has a groin tear. Tyler Johnson has a fractured thumb/wrist. I wonder what's wrong with Nikita Kucherov. And Steven Stamkos.
- Best part of the win for a fan? The Hawks were at home, in those iconic red jerseys and surrounded by a sea of red. #HeartStrings.
- P.S. Leafs' fans are already talking about getting Stamkos as a free agent. Maybe there is some merit to that chatter after all.
