Just a few things that caught my eye:
- I never thought I'd put New York Rangers and must-watch TV in the same sentence. Damn, that was good hockey. Hats off to the Caps, too.
- Bu-bye, Mike Green. Good riddance. The Rangers may have never scored at all if it hadn't been for you. Someone will pay you in the offseason. It won't be the Caps. $6 mil is a lot for a 5/6 defender.
- I have no idea how Ryan McDonagh keeps getting up after getting hit. That wall he hit in front of the net was named Troy Brouwer and it stopped him dead in his tracks. He actually bounced backwards. Ouch.
- Brooks Orpik just loves to prey on the stupid and the oblivious. Marty St. Louis looked up at just the right time to bounce off him. Dan Boyle wasn't so lucky. He had serious Bambi legs after that. The Rangers can ill afford to be down blueliners next round.
- Henrik Lundqvist was a brick wall in OT. He's the reason they won that game. Sure Derek Stepan drained the winner, but it wouldn't have been possible if King Henrik wasn't wearing his crown.
- Kevin Hayes. The one that got away. I'm talking to you, Chicago.
- So much for Alexander the Gr8's so-called guarantee. But it wasn't Mark Messier-esque if you played back the clip -- that was a complete media fabrication. His goal was sweet, though.
- Braden Holtby was flat-out brilliant. He was just about as studly as King Henrik. I'm buying next fall (and I ain't trading him in my big keeper league). He has come into his own.
- I don't know about you, but I found myself rooting for the Caps. And that's despite the fact I picked the the Rangers to win the series. They play big, heavy and talented hockey.
- So far, so good -- all four of my picks have made it to the conference finals. And if you're like me, it's the first time that's happened in years. Picking the conference finalists is usually a complete crap shoot. Bring on the next series. But honestly, NHL -- hockey is not, I repeat NOT an afternoon game. Nascar? Yes. MLB? You bet. NHL? No freaking way.
