I'm doing the LABR Mixed League draft tonight. It's an online, 15-team draft. Standard 5x5 rules, 20 games to qualify at a position, 14 hitters, 9 pitchers, 6 reserves, etc ...

I've got the first pick overall, so I'll be taking Mike Trout - nothing fancy there. The big issue is what will I have at the 2-3 turn? Last year's NFBC Main Event winners took two pitchers at that spot, but that's also in a no-trade league, which this isn't. I'm leaning towards going with one SP, one hitter, but stay tuned. I'll keep posting my picks and some token analysis here and on my Twitter feed.

Mike Trout

ROUND 2
Chris Sale - I was really hoping to get at least one of Yasiel Puig, Ryan Braun, Max Scherzer or Jacoby Ellsbury with these next two picks, but Sale is right there with Felix Hernandez as the 3rd SP.  He'll win more games this year - the White Sox have a better offense and a better bullpen.

ROUND 3
Bryce Harper - Yeah, I reached a little on the upside, but of those available, he's got the best chance to blow up and be a first-rounder. He could also blow up and spend half the year on the DL, but I digress...

ROUND 4/5
Greg Holland & Kenley Jansen - My pet hitters that I like at this spot (Corey Dickerson, Adrian Gonzalez, Brian Dozier) were all gone, and I didn't want to take Adam Wainwright, so I doubled up on the last two closers in the top tier (depending on what you think of Betances). Suffice to say, I'll be going with a bunch of hitters next.

ROUND 6
Yan Gomes - The third catcher on my board, he more than held his own in his first full season behind the plate.

ROUND 7
Chris Carter - All power, lots of BA risk and he's UT-only right now, but he'll get his 1B this year (Singleton stinks) and he could hit 40+.

ROUND 8
Justin Morneau - Love the batting average floor in Coors, even though he might not have the same power ceiling.

ROUND 9
Ryan Zimmerman - Yes, another risk, but he's playing first now so we don't have to worry about his throwing, yet we get the benefit of multiple-position eligibility, being in the middle of a good lineup, and pretty solid batting average floor.

ROUND 10
Neil Walker - I'm getting him in a lot of places - I'm buying the power spike, obviously, and think that the Pirates' lineup is progressively getting better. Speaking of which ...

ROUND 11
Gregory Polanco - The Pirates didn't hide their intentions when they traded away Travis Snider. They're going with Polanco full-time this year. I'm not afraid of his rookie struggles - the pedigree is there, and the possibility that he'll be a power/speed contributor. In other news, my team is skewing young.

ROUND 12
Adam Eaton - I wanted A.J. Pollock here, got sniped by one pick, but I'm happy with this Runs/SB alternative. Again, the ChiSox lineup should be better this year, and I think Eaton will profit at the top of the lineup.

ROUND 13
Brandon Belt - Love, love Belt here. Really bad luck injury halted his breakout season, but it's coming.

ROUND 14
Homer Bailey - Some risk because of the ballpark and health, but that's the nature of the SP business, and we're in the 14th round. Was really turning it on before he got hurt and the Reds shut it down instead of taking risk late in the year.

ROUND 15
Michael Pineda - I honestly am not sure what I'm going to get, but the ratios were really sick when he was on the mound.

ROUND 16
Matt Shoemaker - My candidate for the "regress to what" pitcher of the year. He came out of nowhere, in small part because he was getting bombed in Salt Lake, but everyone gets bombed there. He's got a strong team and a good park - he's a top-200 player for me.

ROUND 17
Danny Duffy - Betting on the come that he gets something approaching a full season.

ROUND 18
Michael Bourn - I'm low on speed - it's ok, no team is complete on Draft Day - but Bourn appears to be healthy for the first time in a couple of years. He used to be a rich man's Ben Revere. I could see him still being that guy, or at least 85% of that guy, now that he's not hampered.

ROUND 19
Chris Tillman - I understand that the low Ks are why he slipped, but he was awesome down the stretch last year. I'm wary of using the "value" label, but I think he was one.

ROUND 20
Jose Ramirez - Looking for stolen bases here, and I think that Ramirez is going to hold off Francisco Lindor long enough to get him. If Lindor had torn it up at lower levels, I'd shy away, but he hasn't. And Ramirez's glovework is strong enough for him to hold on.

ROUND 21
Wade Davis - I'm going to be streaming starting pitchers a lot, so there are going to be some weeks where I don't have enough attractive options. Davis will be a nice ratios and Ks play for those weeks.

ROUND 22
Jed Lowrie - Needed another MI, should hit well enough when healthy in a quietly decent lineup.

ROUND 23
Kyle Lohse - Still think he's underrated, though now that the bar has moved, his ratios are just slightly above average. I'll stream him.

ROUND 24
Mike McKenry - I have a hunch that Wilin Rosario won't last behind the plate, and if that's the case, McKenry should get enough ABs to matter, even with Hundley in town. And if it doesn't, eh, it's a second catcher taken in the reserve rounds.

ROUND 25
J.A. Happ - Taken with the intention of using him in home starts only.

ROUND 26
Tsuyoshi Wada - Maybe he's for real? Worth a streaming spot to find out.

ROUND 27
Joe Panik - Hoping I don't have to hit that button, but he's there in case Ramirez doesn't work out.

ROUND 28
Vance Worley - I believe in the Pittsburgh coaching staff, defense and home park.

ROUND 29
Roenis Elias - The world needs ditchdiggers, too.
