Another day and a headline off the field dominated the NFL knew with Josh Gordon getting reinstated to play for the Patriots. There were also interesting developments from the preseason games which could impact team job battles that are currently going on.

• The return of Gordon couldn't come at a better time for the Patriots. Julian Edelman has a missed a good chunk of the preseason with a thumb injury while rookie N'Keal Harry is dealing with his own leg injury. Right now the site has Gordon listed as the 38th wide receiver; look for him to get moved up and it'll likely take a pick around round eight to snag him. In three different NFFC drafts that took place Friday night well after the news broke, Gordon didn't go in the top six rounds of any of them. Keep in mind another misstep by Gordon would likely mean he'd be done with football for the season. However, 8-10 games of Gordon plus his replacement value could be a difference make in some leagues.
• Daniel Jones looked excellent at times in the Giants preseason win over the Bears. Jones finished 11-for-14 for 161 yards and a passing touchdown. However, Jones coughed up the football twice on two typical rookie mistakes. Eli Manning received a vote of confidence this week from Giants owner John Mara who said, "I hope Eli has a great year and Daniel [Jones] never sees the field. But again, at the end of the day, that's going to be a decision by the head coach as to when, or if, Daniel winds up playing this year." It sounds as if Eli will be given a shot to start come Week 1 but the leash on him will be very short, especially with a fan base that won't have a lot of patience for poor quarterback play.
• The Bills' starters looked good in their 27-14 win over the Panthers as Josh Allen didn't turn the ball over and showed a good rapport with Cole Beasley who finished with a 5-44 line. Darkhorse Christian Wade made another big play take a ball down the first for a 48-yard catch-and-run.
• Josh Rosen got the start over Ryan Fitzpatrick but both quarterbacks were under a lot of pressure from the Tampa Bay defense all night (four sacks, eight QB hits). Neither Miami quarterback overly impressed with Rosen going 10-for-18 for 102 yards (5.7 YPA) while Fitzpatrick went just 3-for-9 for 20 yards. Look for Fitzpatrick to be under center for Miami when they open their season at home against the Ravens.
• The Tampa running back situation didn't become any clearer with Ronald Jones logging two carries for seven yards and Peyton Barber carrying twice for five yards. Barber sits on top of the depth chart for the Bucs and should be the preferred target between the two for drafts.
