NFL Training Camp Blog: Believe in Action Jackson

We have preseason games coming up this week and the news continues to grow by the day. There are holdouts and signings and there seems a lot to pay attention to. Here are some of the important notes from Monday.

  • Coach Jim Harbaugh expects Lamar Jackson to be busy on the ground this season, not a shocker. It seems the Ravens aren't going to restrict him on the ground and he's got a chance at over 200 carries this season provided he stays healthy. Over the final seven games of the season as a starter Jackson had 129 carries so suggesting he'll get over 200 isn't that crazy. Over those final seven games he had 130.16 fantasy points and pro-rating that to 16 games would put him at 297.5 fantasy points. That cumulative stat would have made Jackson the 10th overall quarterback in 2018, less than two fantasy points behind Russell Wilson. A whole offseason to revamp the offense to feature Jackson and a improvement in passing this season means even more upside. Granted, there's the concern he won't hold up for a whole 16 games but the fantasy industry as a whole probably isn't as high on Lamar Jackson as they should be. If you wait on quarterback and need a second high-upside type of player, Jackson is your man.
  • Damien Williams (hamstring) missed practice Monday as expected after leaving practice over the weekend with the injury. The injury isn't thought to be serious and expect the Chiefs to be cautious with their starting running back.
  • Derek Henry (foot) missed practive Monday as expected after leaving Friday's practice and was seen wearing a boot. The injury isn't thought to be serious and expect the Titans to be cautious with their starting running back.
  • Alien Life Form (I couldn't bring myself to use "the Butler") Alfred Morris signed with the Dallas Cowboys. This could be some posturing on Dallas' part given the Zeke Elliott holdout but even if it isn't it adds some solid depth from a veteran who averaged 4.8 yards per carry for Dallas two seasons ago.
  • Jordan Howard is "dominating" the first-team snaps with the Eagles Monday, according to Eagles reporter Eliot Shorr-Parks. This isn't a surprise and despite a crowded backfield Howard appears to be the running back to own on the Eagles. ESP also noted that rookie Miles Sanders (out of Penn State) also looked good and is a sleeper to remember especially in dynasty/keeper leagues.
