The Vampire (Football) Diaries: Adams Family

Last week I tried relentlessly to trade for Saquon Barkley. This week I'm just going to claim as my next meal.

After Mitchell Trubisky, Tarik Cohen and the Colts' Defense carried me to the third highest score in the league and a critical W last week, I'm finally rolling out an elite wide receiver. Davante Adams – unable to be protected because of his bye week – became my third victim, as Count Chocula improved to 3-4.

As it stands, Count Chocula's 3-4 record places him just outside of the playoffs. A three-game win streak, however, would all but seal the deal and basically turn the league over to the dark reign of the Vampire. My next two most-likely victims after adding Adams – Barkley and either Adam Thielen or DeAndre Hopkins – would make Count Chocula basically unstoppable heading into Week 10 at 5-4 with four games until the playoffs.

We're at that point in the season where I'm playing for a title, not just good keeper options. And, fortunately, with my three victories and some helpful waiver moves, we're also at the point in the season where starting decisions are becoming far less difficult. The biggest decision I'll make every week for the foreseeable future will be at QB, where I've managed to hoard Trubisky, Jared Goff and Ben Roethlisberger (seriously, some fool dropped him). With a fairly even matchup on tap, this decision could very well make or break my week.

What I want is highest floor. But it's very tough to see who possesses that given each is at home, with a relatively fine matchup. Right now, I'm leaning Big Ben, but that could change minutes before kickoff. I've had each in my lineup at one point or another this week. The separation for Roethlisberger, though, is threefold – he's typically sharp at home, is not missing one of his top receiving weapons and in fact has the best targets of this trio, and finally, he's coming off his bye week.

So, if I leave Ben in, the matchup looks like this:

Count Chocula – 0.0

QB – Ben Roethlisberger
RB – James Conner
RB – Alvin Kamara
WR – Davante Adams
WR – Tyler Boyd
TE – George Kittle
Flex – Tarik Cohen
Flex – Geronimo Allison
K – Wil Lutz
DEF – Pittsburgh

Bench:

Mitchell Trubisky
Jared Goff
Tre'Quan Smith
D.J. Moore
Austin Ekeler
Ezekiel Elliott

Suh Gurls One Cup – 0.0

QB – Kirk Cousins
RB – Saquon Barkley
RB – Isaiah Crowell
WR – Stefon Diggs
WR – Golden Tate
TE – Travis Kelce
Flex – Randall Cobb
Flex – Tyler Lockett
K – Adam Vinatieri
DEF – San Francisco

I must say, I'm not sure how I feel about my opponent using Cobb and Lockett, both of whom began the season as Count Chocula starters. In fact, it was Cobb's 75-yard touchdown to beat the Bears in Week 1 that sealed my first victory and netted me Elliott. Lockett also contributed a TD to that win, but as I stole victims and found quality free agents, I had to make the decisions to part with this diminutive duo. Hopefully they can help me get another critical win and big-name running back by doing the exact opposite of what they did in Week 1. With Julio Jones on bye for this owner, I'm pretty happy with his starting decisions, especially as I watch the London game and see Wendell Smallwood on his bench.

If I stick with Big Ben, I have one more decision to make that will likely happen during the first slate of games. Do I want Aaron Rodgers' No. 2 WR or Drew Brees' No. 2 WR? I have Allison in now but am actually leaning towards switching it to Smith. The rising rookie could get heavily involved against a banged up Vikings secondary, and I worry that Allison has not played in a month and might lose snaps to the developing Green Bay rookies. As a small plus, it's also nice to have a big-play threat like Smith in the Sunday night game to give me extra hope in the contest that could decide our matchup (and delay my fate) – he has Cousins and Diggs going against the Saints. Moreover, as a lifelong Packers fan, I won't be upset by Allison playing well no matter what and I'll have extra motivation to root for the Saints tonight. Really, it's a win-win.

Okay, I just talked myself into it and swapped in Smith. Who dat gonna get me this win!
