NHL Thursday: Brainworms and the one that got away
Published on April 26, 2018
- Brainworm. That thing that gets in your head that you just can't get out. It's usually a song, but for the Caps it's a flightless bird.
- Alexander Ovechkin's brainworm is named Sidney. Ovie was in the right defensive position on the tying goal, but managed to tip the puck straight to 87. And we both know where that puck ended up.
- Vegas is for real. Three goals in 1:31. Yes, that's the right number. Martin Jones didn't know what hit him.
- Braden Holtby looked like he was all that and a bag of chips for the first half of Thursday's game. The second half? That was more like the chip crumbs in a bag left open for a couple days.
- Jake Guentzel was at it again. Budding star or John Druce? Discuss.
- No Evgeni Malkin. No Carl Hagelin. The march of the penguins will only get louder with those two back in the flock. Yikes.
- Matt Murray -- lapse, nerves or both? He played well after the 17 second mark, but that gaffe is hard to forget. Yes, there's skill there. But there's also luck. And there are times when the latter runs out.
- In a week or so, the Caps are going to look back and wonder about the what-ifs and the one that got away. Yup.
