We're now a month and a half into the season, meaning the dust is beginning to settle in the Staff Keeper League 3 (SKL3) here at RotoWire. Contenders are beginning to make moves to jump into the top spot, sellers are starting to rebuild their team for the future, and everyone is looking to pick up the top free agents on a weekly basis. Starting today, I will be doing a weekly rundown of how the FAAB process worked out in SKL3. FAAB bids process overnight from Thursday to Friday each week, with each owner having a $100 budget for the season.

It may be because many of the league members hail from Wisconsin, but Jimmy Nelson's performance over his past two starts certainly warranted the highest number of bids for the week. Between his starts on May 11 and May 16, the Alabama alumnus allowed just three runs (two earned) and struck out 16 batters in 12.2 innings of work. Between Nelson and Jesus Aguilar, Joe Bartel has a nice crop of Brewers who are producing above expectations thus far.
Another observation is the high price paid for the beneficiaries from Edwin Diaz's demotion. Tony Zych and Steve Cishek commanded the second- and third-highest prices this week, respectively, and looking at which teams bid on those players, Peter Tongas nearly walked away with most of Seattle's saves for $14. Erik Siegrist managed to outbid him for Zych, who collected one save since moving into the closer committee. Juan Carlos Blanco and Mike Rose made savvy pickups on this front, however, picking up James Pazos and Nick Vincent (other relievers in the Mariners' arsenal) for just $2 and $1, respectively. Pazos is a hard thrower, and general manager Jerry DiPoto has confidence in him to handle both righties and lefties, which could help him to see some action in the ninth inning. Vincent hasn't collected a save yet, but he did garner a win in Thursday's action, which certainly won't hurt Rose's chances to move up in the standings.
We'll wrap this up with the award for most pickups in the week. This week, we've got a tie between Rose and D.J. Trainor, who took very different approaches to their pickups. Rose nabbed Tyler Anderson and Alex Gordon for $3 apiece, both of whom are struggling but have good performances in their past. It seems like he's banking on a rebound for these two with a pair of low-risk purchases. D.J., on the other hand, went for players with new opportunities arising for them. Eddie Butler, a former first-round draft pick of the Rockies, twirled six scoreless innings in his debut with the Cubs and appears to be in their rotation for the foreseeable future with Brett Anderson (back) on the shelf. Franklin Gutierrez is enjoying one of the best seasons of his career in a righty-mashing platoon role for the Dodgers, offering a good amount of pop in a limited role. Finally, Mac Williamson is a solid hitter who seems to be in line for plenty of playing time with Hunter Pence (hamstring) getting sidelined recently.
We'll see if all these moves pan out and how they'll affect the standings over the next week. Good luck to everyone!
