Just a few things that caught my eye ...
- Anze Kopitar speaks English, Slovenian, Serbian, German, a little Swedish and a lot of shake n'bake, the universal language of hockey. Was that three or four separate moves? I think I saw Martin Brodeur's jock inside the net afterwards.
- Six of one, half dozen of another. That's what happens when Ilya Kovalchuk switches from left wing to right to avoid Drew Doughty and gets smothered by Willie Mitchell instead. Net result. One shot on net.
- For all the hype that Bobby Ryan gets, Anze Kopitar should have been the number two overall pick in 2005. Not #11. Then again, Paul Stastny (44) and maybe even Kris Letang (62) and Keith Yandle (105) could have been picked ahead of him, too. And don't even get me started about Jonathan Quick (72). But I digress ...
- The Kings won, but is anyone else concerned they couldn't put their boots to the throats of the Devils in that lopsided second period? The Devils didn't manage a shot on net until almost the 15-minute mark of that frame.
- Two guys who may not sleep tonight? Mark Fayne and Marek Zidlicky. Fayne missed a gift 4x6 in the third that could have helped avoid overtime. Zidlicky's indecision on that infamous pinch led to the winner. Neither can rewind to avoid the pain.
- 9-0. The Kings are perfect on the road. Maybe they've been schooling themselves by watching the San Antonio Spurs ...
- Martin Brodeur's double-pad stack on Drew Doughty was classic. So was the look of astonishment on Doughty's face.
- The Devils will be better next game. They beat the Flyers by playing their game rather than worrying about their opponent's. They spent a bit too much time tonight adapting to the Kings' style of play.
- It's a sad day. Nicklas Lidstrom may be retiring Thursday. But he's going out before the game overtakes him. Yoo-hoo, Marty ... Just thinking out loud again.
