Come Sunday evening, the Rick Nash trade rumors appear to be dying down, as noted by ESPN New York's Katie Strang. You can't fault Columbus for asking for as much as they were/are, but you also can't fault a team like the Rangers for potentially disturbing team chemistry. Reports, rumors and ponderings over the last few days have had Nash being shipped to the Garden for packages such as Brandon Dubinsky, one of budding blue liners Ryan McDonagh or Michael Del Zotto, a top prospect and a first-rounder. Other deals included a prospect like Tim Erixson and either Del Zotto or McDonagh, who landed in New York after the Scott Gomez trade.

San Jose walked away apparently after Columbus wanted Logan Couture to be part of any deal. Columbus and GM Scott Howson, fresh off swapping the petulant Jeff Carter for Jack Johnson on Thursday, needs to get a king?s ransom for the face of their franchise. A talent like Nash is a haul for any team getting his services, but Columbus may have needed to temper their asking price a bit. One would have thought they'd go after a starting netminder given the erratic play of Steve Mason, but they did not get involved in talks with St. Louis for Ben Bishop, who was shipped to Ottawa Sunday. Odds are Toronto will be in the discussion Monday for Nash, as Nash is from Brampton and must return to the Leafs, but you have to wonder what the Leafs will pony up, especially considering their woeful play of late. Will the Leafs cough up way too much just to acquire Nash? Is Nashville in the running at the price of a Ryan Ellis-type prospect? Speaking as an owner of Rick Nash in several leagues, it'd be nice to see him on a playoff-bound team. His numbers are not awful, with 21 goals and 43 points, but his minus-23 rating and stretches where both he and his teammates struggle, have made him a bit frustrating to own. A change of scenery and something more than the IIHF World Championships to look forward to likely would have worked wonders for the talented Nash.

Following a set of woeful performances in victories no less, Ilya Bryzgalov continues to be every media member's favorite goalie, a title his teammates and the Philadelphia Flyers' management likely aren't bestowing on him. Bryz was bailed out by his teammates in wins over Calgary and Winnipeg this past week and still sports a sub-.900 save percercentage. You'd have to think the Flyers will be looking at acquiring the services of an Evgeni Nabokov from the Islanders has not at least been discussed, same with J.S. Giguere from Colorado. Regardless, the Flyers still have a wild card in the crease with the playoffs looming and could again be faced with deciding between three goalies when you factor in Sergei Bobrovsky, Bryz and whomever the acquire Monday. Bryz has been the most frustrating netminder to own for me this season as you get a shutout followed by a game where he surrenders three goals on nine shots. You can't put him in your lineup unless you need to. His two wins this week came with him surrendering six goals on 47 shots, not to mention losing 2-0 to Edmonton.
