Great night to haul out my Orr jersey...
- What do you do when you're great on home ice? Well, you bring it with you -- melted, of course -- and you sneak it into Rogers Arena in a green Gatorade bottle. Then you pour it onto the Vancouver ice. It was a little like a dog marking his territory but it did the trick.
- Tale of the tape? I'd invite the boys from Beantown to a BBQ any day but I'd NEVER extend that same courtesy to the Canucks. I think a lot of you feel the same way.
- Roberto Luongo has taken the heat for the Vancouver's troubles but the team's scorers should be the ones in the line of fire. How do you win a seven-game series when you only score eight goals?
- Ryan Kesler left everything on the ice tonight; the rest of the Orcas' offensive studs were using the Romulan cloaking device.
- So, will any of the blindside hits thrown tonight result in October suspensions? Alexandre Burrows on Rich Peverley? Chris Higgins on Zdeno Chara?
- What a way to go out -- Mark Recchi has said he'd retire if he won the Cup. The Recchin Ball saved his best for last, registering seven points in this series. He's a first-ballot HOF induction.
- Something must have been incredibly wrong with Henrik Sedin. He looked like a man who'd lost 20 pounds in the last 10-12 days.
- You've come a long way, Tim Thomas. From Finland to Conn Smythe and Lord Stanley.
- I was worried the fans would turn on the Canucks; instead, they serenaded them with Go Canucks, Go after the loss. And almost every one stayed in the arena and cheered Zdeno Chara getting the Cup. And feted Tim Thomas as he hoisted the chalice. Class act when I didn't expect it.
- I can't stop myself from saying this -- didn't Roberto Luongo look a little like a wandering Tim Thomas on Brad Marchand's first goal?
- Brad Marchand -- scored, agitated, excelled. Next year will be outstanding.
- Mark my words -- Chris Tanev is going to be a very good top-four defender for a long time.
- There will come a day when Vancouver looks back on this day and realizes how special their season was. That day just won't come any time soon.
- The epitome of insane? Two tickets for the game on the secondary market were the same price as a new car.
- Just when I gave credit to the fans in Vancouver they overturned a vehicle on Hamilton St. and set it on fire. They need to look in the mirror to see why no-one else in North America likes them. You would have thought it was a G20 conference or something.
