So the innerwebz are in a bit of a tizzy about this: Bryce Harper blowing kisses at the opposing pitcher as he rounds the bases following a home run.
For those of you who can't see the vid, the sequence goes something like this. Harper destroys a ball, admires it for a few seconds longer than is seemly, then starts his trot. The pitcher appears to say something as he rounds third, and Harper responds by pursing his lips and blowing him a kiss.
Personally, I don't see it as a huge deal. He's 18 years old, for pity's sake. Everyone who hasn't done stupid, immature things at 18 raise your hands. He got plunked in the knee with a pitch the day before and took his "revenge" the proper way, by crushing a ball over the wall, and just enjoyed his revenge a little more than baseball etiquette suggests is proper.
I mean, would you rather he flipped the pitcher the bird as he came around third? Started a bench-clearing brawl on Sunday after getting drilled? Sure the blown kisses were immature, but it was a better way of handling things than some of the other options available.
What do you think? Is Harper just a snot-nosed punk who deserves a few pitches high and tight until he learns his place? Or is the whole thing a non-story getting blown out of proportion because he's the highest profile prospect in the minors?
