Brewers 4 Nationals 3 A much talked about Chris Narveson (5/2.3 IP 3 ER) tempered some hopes out there, walking three batters in one inning. Richie Weeks hits a homerun to power the brew crew past the Nats... Sergio Mitre went two and a third of an inning allowing only one hit. It's not all bad politics if you're catcher thirsty. Wilson Ramos who has a .480 avg but 6 K's is 12-25 this season, Find some space for this kid, he may actually be the real deal. Werth it yet? Jayson Werth (10-51) has two RBI's this season Prince Fielder went 0-4 with 0 K's and left 3 on-base while Zack Greinke looks towards May 4th for hist first start in mustard blue.

Indians 8 Orioles 2 Yeah, it's early, but who would've thought we'd be monitoring an Indians/Royals, punch for punch, to hold onto the A.L. Central. This is going to be a wild division this year. I bet Theo Epstein is dealing with some irregularities at the moment, adulterated or not. It's killing him watching on as Justin Masterson (1.33 ERA) owns the A.L., fully in control of his talent. Asdrubal Cabrera continues his consistency with four more RBI's, ending 2-4 on the day. In fact, five of the Indians nine batters had at least two hits tonight. Josh Rupe, who may be considering Peter Gibbons' desk job right about now, gave up three runs on four hits in one-third of an inning pitched.
Should I stay or should I go...Brian Matusz may throw off a mound next week. Grady Sizemore may travel with the team next week. If not, the next home series after this weekend is against the suddenly-swollen Royals.
WP: Justin Masterson 3-0 LP: Zach Britton 2-1
HR: Travis Hafner (3)
Pirates 6 Reds 1 Now 3-0 on the Friday night Night Cap, we're quickly becoming Pirate believers. Former Rangers/Rockies hitting coach, Clint Hurdle is earning every penny from his winter contract. Jose Tabata is probably the hottest F.A. pick up since the season began, broke out of his two-game slump, obtaining the first four-hit game of his career. Tabata is hitting a serious.354 (17-47) and should be considered armed and dangerous. Former third-round draft pick of the Braves, Charlie Morton has three starts and three quality outings for the pitching starved Pirates I think all baseball fans are pleasantly surprised by six wins in the first three weeks of MLB play for Pittsburgh. For those still holding onto Bronson Arroyo, you're enduring a stinkpot, and my prayers are with you. He may earn 13-15 wins, but none of it will be pretty.
WP: Charlie Morton (2-0) LP: Bronson Arroyo (2-1)
HR: Neil Walker (3), Garrett Jones (2), Jay Bruce (1)
Rays 5 Twins 2 The fact that Johnny Damon pitched in 2 RBI's one week after Shabby Ramirez announced his retirement due to dirty urine, just reignites my belief in day-to-day baseball. Somehow, someway, the cheaters will be set aside and forgotten about -except for pist-off writers- while the rest of baseball will glide on, without regret or inconvienence. A free-agent worth signing, as Damon should help lead the young Rays to at least a respectable 75 wins. Tossed away many times, Kyle Farnsworth (1.80 ERA) is becoming an integral part of a pitching staff for the first time since 2004. Possibly your Saturday afternoon on Fox.
WP: Wade Davis (1-2) LP: Nick Blackburn (1-2) S: Kyle Farnsworth (3)

Mets Braves PPD For the second week in a row, rain has spoiled Friday night baseball for fans of two teams. The way things are going (combined 9-17) for both teams, this may be a blessing in disguise. Perhaps a doubleheader (beginning at 4:10 pm EST tomorrow) will spark one if-not-both of these teams into sharper play. Possibly your Saturday afternoon on Fox.
Marlins 4 Phillies 3 Former pinch-hit man in Philly, Greg Dobbs (.196 avg in 2010) hit the one that counted. This story could continue to develop as Dobbs is 7-17 with 5 RBI's this season. No he's not a juicy hitter, but a ballplayer that deserves his shot. He's currently second on the Marlins third base depth, behind (4-28), Donnie Murphy. More disheartening to Phillies fans, is the low back strain, and early removal of Roy Oswalt. Oswalt allowed two earned runs and notched six strikeouts over six innings. Most impressive was the 4 IP (1 H, 1 BB) out of the Marlins pen, to shut down the game. Javier Vasquez gave up three earned runs (5 hits) over five innings. Shane Victorino, Ross Gload and Roy Oswalt left three runners on each. Raul Ibanez 2-4 (2 RBI's)
WP: Edward Mujica (2-1) LP: Danys Baez (1-1) S: Leo Nunez (5) HR: Logan Morrison (4)
Blue Jays 7 Red Sox 6 It's got to be sour-sweet when you allow more earned runs than hits. Add that to 92 pitches for six innings and even Brett Cecil (6.19 ERA) is wondering what path he is on for the 2011 campaign. If the other members of the Blue Jays staff are ok, so will be Cecil.J.P. Arencibia 0-4 (1 K)Aaron Hill (3-4, 1 RBI)
WP: Brett Cecil (1-1) LP: Bobby Jenks (0-1) S: Jon Rauch (3) HR: Dustin Pedroia (3), Kevin Youkilis (1)
Rangers 5 Yankees 2 There's a lot of guff about Matt Harrison, and after Friday night's ( 8 IP, 2 ER, 7 H) start at Yankee Stadium, there's likely to be more. Despite his well-documented early season behavior, he seems to get the job done, even fighting 40-degree weather. It's not pretty, as his defense had to turn a major-league-tying record, six douple plays for a two-game winning streak against the Bombers going into tomorrow's matinee. One home run, Curtis Granderson (3) is the only one to take a home-run chuckle? Derek Jeter (2), Curtis Granderson (2) and Nick Swisher(2) had six of the eight Yankee hits. I haven't been to the 'new stadium' yet, but I assume if the air is just right in the Bronx, these two could slug it out before the weekend is up. Tomorrow, the Rangers throw a very warm Derek Holland to the wolves' zoo. Freddy Garcia, with a goose-eggs record, but an 9.00 ERA, will take the mound for the Yanks. Sunday Night BaseballSoon to be in stripes?Michael Young 2-4 (2 RBI's, 2 K's)
WP: Matt Harrison (3-0) LP: Ivan Nova (1-1) S: Neftali Feliz (5) HR: Curtis Granderson (3)
Padres 4 Astros 2
It was a match-up of two pitchers on the F.A./trading market. Aaron Harang vs. J.A. Happ and for the most part, Harang (6 IP, 8 K, 3 H 1 ER) got the better end of the stick. While Happ (4 ER) wasn't bad, lasting one inning longer than the winning pitcher. Only the pitcher's slot and 3B Chase Headley were held hitless by the Astros staff.
WP: Aaron Harang (3-0) LP: J.A. Happ (1-2) S: Heath Bell (3)HR: Chris Denorfia (1)
Angels 4 White Sox 3
To be 4-0 is impressive enough, to be 4-0 with at least two more starts left in the month is phenomenal. Mr. Weaver has allowed 4 ER in 27 and two thirds of an inning while striking out 31 batters. This guy WILL HIT 20 wins, how far past that, is really up to the Angels. Possibly your Saturday afternoon on Fox.
WP: Jered Weaver (4-0) LP: Phil Humber (1-1) S: Jordan Walden (2) HR: Adam Dunn (2)
Rockies 5 Cubs 0
While the Cubs are still struggling to build a team identity, the Rockies are the hottest team in Baseball. There's no I in team, but there's two in Troy Tulowitzki. So far, the early season MVP candidate has gone 18-52 this season. But tonight was all about right-hander Jhoulys Chacin (3-0, 1.09 WHIP), who came back from a mediocre outing against the Pirates, to pitch nine innings and allow, nada, zilch, NOTHING over six hits. I was offered Chacin as part of a deal for Roy Halladay (got Craig Kimbrell, Carlos Quentin, but took Kyle Drabek instead). I recall remarking, I'd regret not taking Chacin who he recently released, only to pick up again. If Chacin can manage to stay healthy, 20 wins will not elude this kid. Can you imagine what a 10-2 Rockies squad can muster with their ace pitcher? Garza owners, don't give up, though I dont own him, I believe Chicago is where he'll play for the remainder of his career. This season? 15-17 wins when it's all said-and-done, just as long as he remain healthy.
Something's missing
Ubaldo Jimenez may start the 18th, against the Giants
WP: Jhoulys Chacin (3-0) LP: Matt Garza (0-2)
Royals 6 Mariners 5
The surprise team so thus far in 2011, Kansas City is nearly three weeks into the season and tied for first in the A.L. Central. It's certainly sad times, when the Royals are the hottest team to come in town all season. The Mariners are just miserable again, and all fans wanna talk about is when will Hockey come into town, or Basketball come back. Eric Bedard (8.56 ERA) was bad again. To those still being loyal, you're officially off the hook after three terrible starts. But don't ever count out a rise to his former-self.
Jeff Francoeur 3-4, 1 HR 3 RBI's
Billy Buter 3-4 1 RBI, Justin Smoak walked in a run in his only at-bat,
Kila Ka'aihue has seven hits in 40 AB's this season
WP: Luke Hochevar (2-1) LP: Eric Bedard (0-3)S: Joakim Soria (4) Jeff Francoeur (2), Matt Treanor (2)
Giants 5 Diamondbacks 2
I had high hopes for Daniel Hudson, and I still do. Forget the four earned runs (5 R), Hudson is the real pitching prospect, ready to explode on the scene as a top ten league-pitcher. I think you're seeing the shallow end of a staff-ace to be. Bottom line, Matt Cain (6 IP, 1 ER), world series ring-holder, and number-two starter is building more and more confidence with every step out there. Pablo Sandoval is hitting .356 and could end up the heart of a playoff team for years to come. This staff is fantastic, and their catcher is the next Jorge Posada.
WP: Matt Cain (2-0) LP: Daniel Hudson (0-3) S: Brian Wilson (3) HR: Pablo Sandoval (3)
Tigers 8 A's There's not a bone surprised by Brian Fuentes performance this evening, so if you're hoping for miracle, look elsewhere. Former Rangers SP hopeful Brandon McCarthy showed some of what was promised, but Fuentes (6 R, 3 ER) gave up two hits and ruined the pitching mood all around. Brennan Boesch has his third double in four games and is hitting .318 with 11 RBI's
WP: Brayan Villarreal LP: Brian Fuentes (0-2) HR: Miguel Cabrera (5)
Cardinals 11 Dodgers 2
Things were certainly brighter for Jon Garland, in his mind's eye anyway. And several other fantasy owners, I assure you. Instead, Garland, took his home/season-debut start at defensive-minded Dodger Stadium and allowed a mess. Having given up five earned runs in four innings, but six strikeouts, one has to wonder what was on Mr Garland's mind. I'm holding onto this arm, at least for a few more starts. Meanwhile Kyle Lohse looks comfy in Cardinal red, and can be considered in deep N.L. Leagues.
