Apparently the Carmelo Anthony negotiations really were holding up trade talks league-wide. In the 36 or so hours since the Knicks and Nuggets sealed their deal, we've seen one all-star change jerseys and a couple other potentially interesting players on the move. And the trade deadline is still 24 hours away.

My take on the latest moves:

• Acquiring Deron Williams is a very risky move for the Nets, but it's a risk they have to take after missing out on all the 2010 free agents and Carmelo Anthony. They'll have a year to convince D-Will to re-sign... a discussion that could be made easier (or more difficult) by the new collective bargaining agreement. Williams' ability to set up his teammates is well-established, so this trade should represent a significant boost for guys like Brook Lopez, Kris Humphries and Anthony Morrow.
• The Jazz seem to be headed into "under construction" territory. They've already announced that they won't spin Derrick Favors off in another deal, which means they've got too many power forwards and not enough minutes. Advice to Al Jefferson and Paul Millsap - don't buy. Rent. It would make sense to see what they can get for Andrei Kirilenko as well, as AK-47 is a free agent after this season.
• As an aside -- you've got to feel bad for Big Al. He leaves Boston in the Garnett trade, is stuck in Minnesota for years, finally lands with a team that's usually pretty decent... and now this. Ouch. Here's hoping he gets moved to a playoff squad, just for his own sanity.
• The Hornets moved Marcus Thornton to Sacramento, getting Carl Landry in return. Interesting move for both teams. I'm reading this as a tacit admission that Tyreke Evans' foot injury is serious. Claim Thornton if he's available.
• Landry, on the other hand, could be buried behind David West and Emeka Okafor once the Hornets' frontline is healthy. He could also give the Hornets a less-expensive option if West decides to test free agency. Landry's contract expires after this season too, but he probably wouldn't command the same dollars West might get.
• Gerald Wallace to the Blazers? Really? If I'm the Blazers, I wouldn't go anywhere near a player with Wallace's injury history. (If I was the Blazers, I'd be leery of anyone that's ever sustained so much as a paper cut.)
• The Heat are reportedly shopping Mike Miller -- which means they're worried about how well he'll recover from the concussions, or they're comfortable with James Jones as their designated three-point bomber, or a combination of the two. If you've been hanging on to Miller in the hopes that he'd become the fourth member of the Big Three, I suspect your hopes are about to be dashed.
• Troy Murphy could help quite a few teams if he's bought out -- Miami? The Knicks? Donnie Walsh does love his ex-Pacers...
• Eddy Curry will be free to sign somewhere too... but you'll forgive me if I'm skeptical about his prospects.
