Ben Tate left Saturday's preseason loss to Arizona with a possible season-ending ankle injury – Nothing's official, but early word doesn't look good. The rookie back was in the running to carry the load for Houston this season. With Tate's season now in doubt, Arian Foster and Steve Slaton could see a lot more action this year.
Sage Rosenfels did his best Brett Favre impression Saturday night – Rosenfels led the Vikings to a 28-7 win over the Rams on Saturday, completing 23-of-34 passes for 310 yards and three touchdowns. If Favre doesn't come back for another season, Tavaris Jackson, who only played one series Saturday night, is slated to be the starter. But we could see an early-season quarterback controversy if Rosenfels plays this well throughout the preseason. Keep an eye on the situation to see if Rosenfels can pull the rug out from underneath Jackson's feet.
Ryan Grant left Saturday's preseason loss to the Browns with a "likely concussion" – Grant was able to carry the ball just three times for six yards before receiving a blow to the head and exiting the game. Early indications are this isn't too serious, but we all saw the effects a concussion can have on a running back's season with Clinton Portis last year. Monitor the situation closely.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is optimistic that rookie Dez Bryant (high ankle sprain) will be able to play in the team's final two preseason games – Bryant had his walking boot removed on Friday and was able to do some light running. Dallas has been optimistic Bryant would be ready in time for the regular since the injury was sustained, but he wasn't originally expected to see much, if any, action in the preseason. As a rookie, the extra reps in one or two preseason games would be beneficial towards Bryant's development and likely go a long way towards him becoming a fixture in the Cowboys' offense sooner than later.
The Rams are flirting with Brian Westbrook again – The Rams have been linked to Westbrook for most of the offseason, but things heated up on Saturday when ESPN's John Clayton reported that Westbrook would likely sign with St. Louis. Rams' officials have since denied that a deal was imminent, but the team is still optimistic one will eventually get done. With Steven Jackson set to carry the load in St. Louis, there are more attractive destinations for Westbrook to land. That said, he would become a clear handcuff to Jackson if he signs with the Rams.
