The RotoWire Blog has been retired.

These archives exist as a way for people to continue to view the content that had been posted on the blog over the years.

Articles will no longer be posted here, but you can view new fantasy articles from our writers on the main site.

Training Camp Notes

-Kevin Smith will sit out Saturday's preseason opener for the Lions, which means we should get a good look at Jahvid Best

-Donavan McNabb went 5-for-8 on Friday night, hitting Chris Cooley for three of the catches. McNabb has always loved his tight end but it's hard for me to recommend Cooley with Fred Davis stealing some targets this year.

-Kevin Kolb went 6-for-11 for 95 yards in his debut Friday night, passing for four catches of over 20 yards. Those numbers don't account for Brent Celek missing a catchable ball in the back of the end zone. If he keeps this up he'll lose the sleeper tag quickly.

-Ty Warren was placed on injured reserve. This is a tough break since the Pats weren't that strong of a fantasy defense to begin with.

-Glen Coffee decided to retire without reason. He was battling for the #2 RB job in San Fran and the sudden announcement was a surprise. Maybe he'll be working for Starbucks soon (bad joke, I know).

-Joe Flacco went 8-for-12 on Thursday and should be in your top-12 QBs come draft day. Ray Rice had zero carries in the same game but this was a case of the Ravens being cautious with their star back.

-Fred Jackson started for the Bills on Friday night and remains the best fantasy option of the three RBs. Don't be afraid to use a late pick on Marshawn Lynch in deeper leagues; I've been saying for months he'll get traded and likely become a decent fantasy option when he gets a new home. Given Lynch's checkered past, the Bengals make a ton of sense here.

-Shawne Merriman finally signed a one-year tender from the Bolts. I still can't help but think of Maurice Jones-Drew leveling him on that blitz last year. No word if Tila Tequila is still advising him or not.
