Most people have expected John Wall of Kentucky to be the top pick in the NBA draft all season, but in the last month or two Evan Turner of Ohio State has been getting a lot of attention as well. Both of them bowed out of the NCAA tournament this weekend, so I guess it's time for us to start thinking about their pro prospects.
I have most often heard Wall compared to Derrick Rose because they both have ridiculous athleticism and were high school legends. But while Rose was all muscle with explosive leaping ability, Wall seems to be more of a quickness/speed guy. In fact, I see a lot of Monta Ellis in Wall's game. Wall will probably play PG, but I think he'll be more scorer than distributor on the next level.
Turner, on the other hand, is being called "the next Brandon Roy" everywhere I look. And honestly, that seems like a great comp. Both are wings that can play the PG, both are all-around performers that weren't known for their long-range shooting. Turner is a bit taller than Roy, while Roy may be a bit quicker, but on the whole that sounds like a reasonable projection.
So, for those that may have watched more college basketball than I did this year...which of these two impressed you more on the college level? Which do you think will be a better pro?
