The Premier League entered the home stretch this weekend, with most teams having ten games left to determine their fate.  It was a weekend that lacked marquee matchups, and the only thing that we found out was that this thing is going to go down to the last weekend of the season.

Wayne Rooney continued his ridiculous season, scoring two more times in Man U's 3-0 win over Fulham, and making it four goals for the week after scoring twice in Manchester United's Champions League win over AC Milan.  Rooney has 25 goals this season, with eight games left of the schedule.

Rooney and his Red Devils stayed two points clear of second-place Chelsea, who also won comfortably, 4-1 over West Ham.  Arsenal were tested at Hull, but came up with another dramatic winner in added time, and claimed a 2-1 road win to keep pace with the leaders.  Chelsea have a game in hand on both the Gunners and Manchester United, but Arsenal has the easiest road to the end of the season.

While the battle at the top just gets closer every week, the battle for the coveted fourth spot in the league is also going to go down to the wire.  The current holders of fourth, Tottenham, won 3-1 at home over Blackburn, with two goals from the rejuvinated Roman Pavlyuchenko.  Manchester City needed a dramatic late goal by Adam Johnson to earn a 1-1 draw at Sunderland, and Liverpool have Monday night soccer against Portsmouth, which should equal three points for the Reds.  So as it stands, Spurs have a two-point lead over City, while City have a game in-hand, and Liverpool figure to sit a point behind Spurs after Monday night.  The Reds have played one more game than Tottenham, and two more games than City.

That brings us to the bottom of the table, where things are equally confusing.  Portsmouth are set, they're going down, leaving us with two spots left in the drop zone.  Hull City's heart-breaking home loss to Arsenal cost their boss Phil Brown his job, and it also kept them in 19th place, even on points with Burnley, but behind them on goal-differential.  So Burnley and Hull hold the unfortunate final two spots in the drop zone, with Wolves, West Ham and Wigan all within striking distance.  Wolves and the Hammers sit three points clear, and Wigan, who continue to hemorraghe goals after giving up four to Bolton on the weekend, are four points clear.  But that could all change by the end of next week.
