If you're one of those golf traditionalists who take the "par is a good score" approach to tournaments, you should probably avert your eyes from coverage of the Buick Open. The field is clobbering par, and the eventual winning score might be something on the order of 23-under. (For comparison, Kenny Perry won last year's Buick with a score of 19-under.) The leader after Saturday's third round is none other than Tiger Woods, who followed up Friday's season-best 63 with a 65 Saturday to reach 17-under for the event. Second-round leader Michael Letzig led by a stroke going into his final hole, but had trouble getting out of a greenside bunker and finished with a double bogey to post a 68; he's one shot back of Woods, and will get to see the world's No. 1 player up close in the final pairing on Sunday.
Scott Piercy, who made the cut on the number (4-under), had the low round of the day with a 64, but was only able to make up a single shot on Woods. Piercy's scorecard was peppered with nine birdies (one more than he had in the first two rounds combined) and marred by a lone bogey. He has shown a remarkable dexterity from the rough, finding only 43|PERCENT| of the fairways but reaching fully 70|PERCENT| of the greens thus far.
