Rany Jazayerli, of Baseball Prospectus and Rany on the Royals fame, has been banned by the team for having the temerity to challenge the job done by the Royals' medical staff.
His offense was to call for the firing of long-time Royals trainer Nick Swartz. He described in detail many of the Royals' missteps regarding the health of their players over the years, including three big cases this year with Coco Crisp, Mike Aviles and Joakim Soria.
We've already been critical of the job Dayton Moore has done in other arenas (the Jose Guillen signing, trading for Mike Jacobs), but this goes beyond the pale. If the Royals want to wear blinders and put their hands over their ears and pretend nothing's wrong, that's there prerogative. But by trying to silence someone who is shining the light on the situation, they're demonstrating that not only are they doing poorly, they're incapable of improving.
