Just a few things that caught my eye:
- The Wings are to the Pens as synthetic oil is to conventional. Discuss.
- Scott Walker had his automatic one-game suspension for instigating a fight in the last five minutes of a game dropped to a measly $2,500 fine. What will Evgeni Malkin's be reduced to? I'm beginning to think the NHL rule book has those pop-up pages you find in kids' books.
- When I was a kid, I always went with my dad to the in-and-out store -- you Canadians know what I'm talking about; the one with the orange and black trim. You drop off your empties, grab your 2-4 and out you go. That's pretty much what happened to the Pens on Sunday... except they kept going in with a full case and always left (quickly) with a case of empties. Something wrong there.
- Marian Hossa played hack-and-dash on that second goal. I guess there are different rules for star players. See also bullet two.
- No offence intended to Sergei Gonchar but the Wings have three defensemen -- Niklas Lidstrom, Brian Rafalski and Niklas Kronwall -- better than the Penguins' top guy. Ouch.
- Bill Guerin really does have some high-test left in the tank. Nice game, grandpa.
- Remember when your mom said you make a better door than a window when you stood in front of the TV? The Wings are the doors in front of Marc-Andre Fleury -- the poor guy can't see a thing and he's getting speared at every turn. Chris Osgood has brand-new tempered panes in front of him. Not a single Penguin in sight. Of course he looks good. I'd look good in that situation.
- I love the smart-ass who picks the songs they play in Joe Louie. Bon Jovi's plaintiff wails of "...oh-oh, we're half-way there..." were priceless in the last minute. The Penguins need to start praying. Either that or ban anything by 80s rock bands from the Igloo.
