Just a few things that caught my eye:
- Beard comparison -- Eric Cole has more facial hair than Sidney Crosby, Marc-Andre Fleury and about half of the state of Pennsylvania. And those are the women.
- When was the last time you saw a team captain touch -- let alone pick up -- a conference trophy? I was stunned. They usually treat that thing like it's contagious.
- Miracle of miracles -- the NHL has decided that they'll move up the start date of the Stanley Cup finals if the Wings can now finish off the Hawks tomorrow night. Before, they were holding fast to a June 4th or 5th start. And they want hockey to catch on in the U.S. Then again, they still think Phoenix can support a hockey team just because it's a huge TV market. Wakey, wakey.
- Admittedly, I'm a germaphobe but is it really necessary to grab your nose and rub the snot around right before you get in line to shake hands? The number one rule every child is taught before they enter kindergarten? Keep your fingers out of all holes in your body, at least while you're in public... even more so while on national TV.
- Bill Guerin won a Cup in 1994-95; Sidney Crosby was six-and-a-half that year. I'm just saying.
- Eric Staal might as well have been on the island with Tom Hanks and Wilson. He would have had more company.
- Sid the Kid may be a boring guy but he's a freaking awesome hockey player. The more I watch him, the more I like him. Twenty-eight points in 17 games?
- It's funny. Cam Ward carries the Canes through the last series and the TV pundits all yelp about how he could be Team Canada's goalie for the 2-10 Olympics. Marc-Andre Fleury does the same for the Pens this series and low-and-behold, don't the same pundits start the cry about him being considered for Team Canada. Make up your mind. On the bandwagon; off the bandwagon.
- RIP Peter Zezel. You always looked like you were having a blast on the ice. Fourty-four is way too young to lose you.
