MLB Network's 30-in-30 series is worth watching for a few nuggets, particularly when they discuss the prospects within a team's system. But the show is absolutely awash in baseball cliches, and the worst culprit is former GM John Hart (who I generally like, despite this flaw).
Each show, he'll talk about the virtues of a given player, and at minimum, will use the phrase "... plays the game the right way ...." This also works at the macro level for him, when describing an organization. He also needs to kick the gimmick of picking a slew of teams to "tie for second" when predicting divisional finishes. The prediction segment overall can disappear as far as I'm concerned - the panel for the day never has to provide actual W-L projections, so there's no check on whether it adds up.
Overall, I still applaud the effort to devote 30 hours of programming on team previews alone. It's an ambitious effort, especially when accepting that not everybody wants the same type of programming that I want. It's still too cliche-riden and ex-jock dominated, but it's a start. That, and the Batting Stance Guy is hilarious. I'd give it a "6" for their Version 1.0 (except for the Blue Jays preview, which had Harold Reynolds on the panel, and he went on a bizarre anti-stats rant.).
