I'm not a college football fan, so someone is going to have to explain this to me.
We had a regular season. We had conference championships. We had the bowl games. (Who watches all those bowl games, by the way? If the BCS Championship Game is for all the marbles, aren't the rest of the bowls essentially just exhibitions?)
We had the championship game... in which Saint Tim of Gainsville apparently played pretty well.
And when the final AP poll was announced... 17 out of 65 voters chose someone other than Florida as the number one team. (Sixteen votes went to Utah, one to USC.) By my math, that means Florida just won 74|PERCENT| of a national championship.
Does this bother anyone else?
When Kansas beat Memphis, Kansas became the national champion. There was no argument that North Carolina was actually better.
When the Giants beat the Pats, the Giants were the NFL champions. The Patriots didn't get any first-place votes.
When the Phillies beat the Rays, and the Celtics beat the Lakers... that was it. Case closed.
But college football can have an entire season and still leave people arguing over who the champion should be.
College football fans, please explain to me how this is acceptable.
