Torry Holt was flagged for pass interference Sunday. Here's Holt's description of the incident:
"[The official] said he looked up in the JumboTron and saw that I pushed off," Holt said.
Ah, what? The official was watching the JumboTron? During the play?
I find this bizarre. Why would the official be looking at the anything other than the play that's taking place? Isn't the whole point of judging in person that it's more accurate to be up close and personal? Maybe that's why NFL officials suck so badly, because they're too busy watching the JumboTron instead of the action in front of them.
Or, did the official see the replay on the JumboTron and then throw the flag? Or maybe he threw the flag during the play, then watched the JumboTron to confirm or deny his gut feeling. Either way, that's a gross violation of the replay rules, isn't it?
Maybe it was totally innocent. Maybe he threw the flag, Holt complained and then the official said, "Hey man, check out the JumboTron, you can see that you pushed off." But even then, let's say the JumboTron replay showed that in fact Holt did not push off. Would the ref have picked up the flag? That's problematic, no?
Just seems fishy to me for the officials to be watching the JumboTron whether in real-time or replay.
