Surprising Blowouts

What's with the Pistons getting blown out by the Timberwovles on Sunday? Can you imagine Randy Foye dropping 23 points on 9-of-12 shooting and 14 assists on a Pistons' defense? You think the Nuggets are happy with Chauncey Billups as their point guard instead of Allen Iverson? Something's not quite right in the land where automobile manufacturers ask for government handouts. Detroit's been blown out in two straight, having been pushed around pretty handily by the Celtics on national TV last Thursday. In addition to Foye's shredding, the Timberwolves pounded away with Al Jefferson (19 points, eight rebounds), Ryan Gomes (20 points, seven rebounds) and Craig Smith (16 points, nine rebounds). No doubt the Pistons are counting the days until Antonio McDyess returns. Dice's agent told ESPN.com that his client has decided to sign with the Pistons when eligible in December. He'll give them another big body that can defend better than Kwame Brown.

When I see Gabe Pruitt and Brian Scalabrine getting in the game, I know the Celtics won in a romp. Don't look now, but the Raptors are in last place in the Atlantic Division after losing Celtics on Sunday. The injury to Jermaine O'Neal certainly hurts because it means Andrea Bargnanihas to play inside. Or should play inside, if he were willing to. To his credit, Bargnani's scored 43 points and pulled down 17 rebounds with two blocked shots in the two games that O'Neal has been limited by a sore left knee. The Raptors will feel the drop off defensively, but if Bargnani can continue to shoot like he has (51.4|PERCENT|), he'll prevent defenses from collapsing on Chris Bosh, who has 66 points while getting to the free-throw line 25 times in the last two games. He's getting to the line nearly 10 times a game -- fifth in the league -- which helps scoring totals. Bosh, incidentally, is the third-leading scorer in the NBA behind LeBron Jamesand Dwyane Wade. I can't wait until they all become free agents in 2010.
