Handicapping the NBA: Wednesday Picks

Steven Adams OVER 10.5 rebounds (+110) at Spurs -- FanDuel, 2:04 PM CT

The Spurs have allowed the fourth-most rebounds to opponents (47.4) and the second-most offensive rebounds (11.5) to opponents, and Adams is exactly the kind of player who can exploit that. He's grabbing 10.4 rebounds across his past nine appearances, including 5.0 offensive boards. Back on New Year's Eve, he grabbed 13 boards (eight offensive) against the Spurs, so I'm banking on him putting on a similar performance here.

Atlanta Hawks -9.5 (-115) vs. Sacramento Kings -- DraftKings Sportsbook, 3:20 PM CT

Less than 24 hours ago, the Kings lost by 53 points -- fifty-three -- in Boston and now have to travel down to Atlanta for the second leg of a back-to-back. We don't know if De'Aaron Fox will be available, but even if he is, that doesn't really change my mind. While the Kings appear to be heading down a very familiar path, the Hawks are (finally) moving in the other direction after a sluggish December. Coming into tonight, Atlanta has won four straight over quality opponents in Milwaukee, Minnesota, Miami and Charlotte. It doesn't get much better than playing at home on two days' rest against a team that just got clobbered by 53 points and immediately had to fly 1,100 miles south.

Trae Young to score 25-plus points and Hawks to win against the Kings (-177) -- FanDuel, 1:47 PM CT

Look, I'm very thankful I get to do the "DraftKings Sportsbook: Best Bets" column twice a week, but FanDuel offers so much more versatility for parlays in particular. Young has scored 25 or more points all but three times dating back to Thanksgiving, and while the team has certainly struggled at times, they are easily better than the Kings. I think you can probably get even better odds depending on the status of De'Andre Hunter (back) and Bogdan Bogdanovic (knee), but regardless if either or both play, Young should still be a critical scoring factor for the Hawks. Editor's note: Young averages 29.1 points in wins this season.

Kirien Sprecher

New York Knicks @ Miami Heat UNDER 202.5 (-110)FanDuel Sportsbook 11:30 AM

This is by far the lowest point total on Wednesday's 10-game slate, which caught my attention. These teams have yet to meet up this season, but last year, two of their three matchups ended well below 200 total points. Albeit, the squads are a bit different this time around, but the team's core principles remain in place. Both pride themselves on getting the job down on the defensive side of the ball and both are allowing less than 105 points per game, which is good for top five in the NBA. The Knicks have Mitchell Robinson (ankle) and Nerlens Noel (knee) both listed as questionable, but Robinson is reportedly expected to play, so they should have at least one of their shot blockers available to protect the paint. This is far from a lock, but I expect a slow-paced game with very few easy looks at the rim.

Jeff Edgerton

Kessler Edwards OVER 0.5 Assists (-255) -- DraftKings, 11:13 AM CT

Kyrie Irving is out at home as usual, and James Harden can't move the ball around all by himself.  Kevin Durant usually eclipsed this number regularly, and there's no reason why Edwards can't do the same. He did endure four consecutive goose-eggs recently, but it's interesting to note that they were all away games where Irving was present on the floor.  Without Irving, he's been able to drop a dime or two at minimum.
