Wyatt Mathisen

After hitting the wall in the Pirates' minor-league system, Mathisen exploded for a 1.004 OPS over 345 PA with Triple-A Reno in 2019. It was an age-25 breakout in the PCL, but the Diamondbacks saw enough to add Mathisen to the 40-man roster last winter and he was part of the taxi squad when the 2020 major-league season got underway. Mathisen finally made his debut in September and went on to have a two-homer game, but there was not a of production otherwise in his first cup of coffee. Twelve strikeouts in 33 PA don't bode well for a player who is now 27 years old. He will not be assured anything out of spring training.
