Victor Alcantara

Alcantara transitioned to a reliever in 2017, working out of the bullpen in 55 of his 56 appearances between Triple-A Toledo and Detroit. He began the season with the Mud Hens, getting called up July 4. Alcantara shuttled between Motown and Corporal Klinger's hometown for the next few weeks before settling in for good July 20. As a starter, Alcantara's main issue was control. He took a huge leap forward last season -- by his own accord, Alcantara began changing speeds with less reliance on his fastball. Something clicked as evidenced by a 5.0 BB% in 30 innings with the Tigers. Alcantara's strikeouts also fell, but with the ability to throw 95 mph, there's a chance he can miss more bats as he further refines his repertoire as a reliever. Alcantara pitched mainly in lower-leverage spots, though he did garner three saves in his last 14 outings.
