Links up with Dodgers
Kelly announced Sunday via his personal Twitter account that he signed a minor-league contract with the Dodgers.
ANALYSIS
After briefly retiring in 2019, Kelly elected to resume his career in 2021 in independent ball. He eventually caught on with the Mariners on a minor-league deal, appearing in 22 games last season for the organization's Triple-A affiliate and posting a .670 OPS over 90 plate appearances. Kelly will presumably report to Triple-A Oklahoma City with his new organization once the minor-league season gets underway.

2017 Fantasy Outlook
After spending parts of the last four seasons at Triple-A but never rising above that, and beginning the season with an assignment to Triple-A Las Vegas, Kelly looked to be running out of time to get a shot in the big leagues. The 28-year-old got off to a blazing start in the minors though, accumulating a .328/.409/.435 slash line at Triple-A that earned him multiple trips to the parent club throughout the season. While he didn't hit for a great average in the majors, Kelly was able to carry over his amazing plate discipline, walking more times than he struck out -- a feat he had previously accomplished three times in his first four seasons in the minors. Even with a middling average (.241 in 58 at-bats), his ability to get on base could earn him a utility role next season, but the minor league veteran could also see substantial time back at Triple-A. The latter seems more likely now after he was designated for assignment in February.
