Receives MiLB deal from Detroit
The Tigers signed Nido to a minor-league contract Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Nido was released by the Cubs in late August just as he was beginning a rehab assignment following a debridement procedure on his right knee. He should be healthy enough to play now and will give the Tigers some organizational catching depth for the stretch run.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2023
2021
Nido is valued for his contributions behind the plate, namely his defense and pitch framing. If you're a Mets pitcher, Nido is neat-o, but he doesn't do enough with the bat to be worthy of consideration in standard mixed leagues. He's topped out at four home runs in a season and owns a career .323 SLG. He's struck out in roughly a quarter of his 744 career plate appearances in the majors, though to his credit he surged to a .280/.306/.449 line after the All-Star break last season. The Mets signed Omar Narvaez and have top prospect Francisco Alvarez waiting in the wings, leaving Nido as a placeholder keeping a seat warm. Nido can be considered viable in two-catcher NL-only formats, but that's only until Alvarez supplants him.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
More playing time likely
Mike Puma of the New York Post reports Omar Narvaez will miss 8-to-9 weeks with a calf strain, so Nido is likely to see a boost in playing time.
ANALYSIS
Top prospect Francisco Alvarez is set to join the Mets and should receive plenty of starts, but he could split his time between catcher and designated hitter. Nido started three of New York's first seven games, all against lefties, but he may not have such a distinct platoon advantage anymore since Alvarez is a switch hitter. Nido has a .573 OPS in his big-league career and is unlikely to warrant fantasy consideration regardless of his role.
