2025 Fantasy Outlook
Fairchild runs very well and can cover a lot of ground in the outfield, but in over 600 career plate appearances at the major league level, he has his .224/.308/.389 with a terrible walk to strikeout ratio. Fairchild has put up good batting averages and on-base percentages in the minors, but has not hit enough to earn more than a reserve role with the Reds since joining them during a nomadic 2022 which saw him play with three clubs as he ran out of roster options. Fairchild still cannot be sent down to the minors without being exposed to waivers, but it is unlikely another club will be eager to grab a rather replaceable skillset. If Fairchild cannot show more at the plate, his days in Cincinnati are numbered. Read Past Outlooks

2021
2020
Fairchild opened 2023 on the major league roster and played regularly as a starter or late-game sub against left-handers over the first two-and-a-half months before being optioned to Triple-A Louisville with a .237 average over 64 games. He eventually finished the year in the majors, mostly as a fifth outfielder with stretches as a starter when injuries hit. With Spencer Steer expected to see most of his time in the outfield, a competition for fifth outfielder should play out during spring training. Fairchild brings above-average defense at all three outfield spots and speed, which gives him a leg up on the competition. That he doesn't have options remaining works in his favor, as Nick Martini still has one left. The Reds could option Martini, leaving Fairchild and Jose Barrero, whose primary position is shortstop, to compete for a job.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
More playing time coming
Fairchild should get more playing time with Tyler Naquin gone, reports C. Trent Rosencrans of The Athletic.
ANALYSIS
The Reds traded Naquin to the Mets on Thursday, and Fairchild is likely to be the beneficiary. Cincinnati selected Fairchild off waivers from San Francisco in June and the 26-year-old has made just eight appearances for Cincinnati since being acquired. The outfielder has produced a .285/.376/.567 slash line with 20 homers in 346 plate appearances at the Triple-A level and will likely get a shot to prove himself in the majors over the final two months of the season. He's capable of playing all three outfield positions, which should increase his potential for playing time.
