2024 Fantasy Outlook
Horwitz has been an accomplished hitter all throughout the Toronto system with a .303/.407/.464 triple-slash line in just over 1,700 plate appearances since 2019. He is the type of hitter that is both accepting of his walks as well as someone very willing to use his contact skills to put the ball in play having never struck out as many as 80 times in a season at a time where many minor leaguers are posting triple-digit strikeout totals. Horwitz's 2024 fantasy value is clouded in two ways. Primarily, he is only eligible at utility on draft day as he had six games at DH and five at first base last season. Secondarily, the Jays roster is rather loaded with talent and Horwitz's best path forward would be playing left field. If he were to get that job, he would still likely hit in the 9th spot of the lineup. Read Past Outlooks
Getting night off
Horwitz is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Red Sox.
ANALYSIS
Horwitz's streak of 11 consecutive starts will come to an end while he heads to the bench for the first time since Sept. 11. He'll cede his spot in the lineup to Tyler Heineman, who will handle catching duties while top backstop Alejandro Kirk gets a day off behind the plate but sticks in the starting nine as the Blue Jays' designated hitter.

2023 Fantasy Outlook
Horwitz had a .293/.409/.513 slash line with Double-A New Hampshire during the first half of 2022 to receive a promotion to Triple-A Buffalo, where he had a .724 OPS. Trading Teoscar Hernandez to the Mariners opened up significant at-bats between right field and designated hitter for the Blue Jays, but there's still not an immediate path to the majors for Horwitz. He saw most of his action last season between first base and left field, but his limited power (.117 ISO) could limit his potential at first base. The 25-year-old continued to show excellent plate discipline with a 15 percent walk rate, which would obviously translate well to any position in the majors. Horwitz is likely to begin 2023 back with Buffalo, but he could quickly be called up for his big-league debut with a strong start to the season.

Call-up on horizon?
Keegan Matheson of MLB.com suggested Tuesday the Blue Jays would be more comfortable with Horwitz as a bench piece in September compared fellow prospects Addison Barger and Orelvis Martinez.
ANALYSIS
Horwitz made his big-league debut in June and went 2-for-8 with an RBI and a run in three games, but he's spent most of the campaign at Triple-A Buffalo, where he has a .946 OPS in 106 contests. MLB rosters expand to 28 players Friday, and the 25-year-old is a strong candidate to be promoted for the stretch run.
