2025 Fantasy Outlook
Arrighetti's rookie season had a little bit of everything for everyone, both his fans as well as his detractors. He had four different contests in which he struck out 10 or more batters capped off by a 13 strikeout performance against Boston. Four other times, he allowed 5 or more earned runs, including 7 in just 1.1 innings against Detroit. He twice allowed 3 homers in a contest, and yet struck out 27.1% of the batters fe faced. However, it was that inconsistency which led to him winning just 7 of his 28 starts for a team which won its division. The rookie lived and died off his curveball and sweeper, which collectively held opposing hitters to a .151 batting average while the league hit .296 off the rest of his offerings. Arrighetti showed signs of progress in the second half as three of the four aforementioned big strikeout games came after the break and a reduction in his walk rate helped reduce his ERA two and a half runs from the first half. As long as his non-breaking pitches are this hittable, homers will continue to be an issue for him in Houston, but reducing the walks can help offset some of that damage. That 21.4% K-BB% in the second half of the season is something to admire since his overall numbers somewhat mask that late season goodness. Read Past Outlooks

Available out of bullpen
PHouston Astros
September 27, 2024
Arrighetti (calf) will pitch out of the bullpen for the weekend series against the Guardians, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Arrighetti was pulled from his last start Sunday against the Angels due to calf cramping. While he won't return to the rotation for the final series of the regular season, the 24-year-old right-hander could see some work out of the bullpen for a game or two to test out his calf ahead of the postseason. In 11 starts since the All-Star break, Arrighetti has a 3-6 record with a 3.30 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 74:18 K:BB across 62.2 innings.

Stat Review
How does Spencer Arrighetti compare to other starting pitchers?
This section compares his stats with all starting pitcher seasons from the previous three seasons (minimum 120 innings)*. The bar represents the player's percentile rank. For example, if the bar is halfway across, then the player falls into the 50th percentile for that stat and it would be considered average.

* Exit Velocity, Barrels/BBE %, Balls Hit 95+ MPH %, and Spin Rate are benchmarked against 2019 data (min 120 IP). See here for more exit velocity/barrels stats plus an explanation of current limitations with that data set.

2024 Fantasy Outlook
Thrust into the big-league rotation early in 2024 amid a slew of injuries, Arrighetti looks more like a streamer in very good matchups than an every-week consideration in mixed leagues. He was 93-97 mph with his fastball in his big-league debut but had sat in the low-90s in the minors, so perhaps he was a little juiced up. Arrighetti's high-80s cutter and low-80s sweeper are his go-to secondary offerings, with the sweeper grading as his best pitch. The 24-year-old righty has poor command, with his 9.1 percent walk rate at Double-A in 2023 the lone mark below 11 percent at any stop since 2022. He has gone fewer than five innings in all three of his 2024 starts, largely due to the fact he has walked 10 batters in 11.1 innings. If the Astros start getting starters back from the injured list, Arrighetti could head back to Triple-A or move into a long-relief role.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Top AL rookie in August
PHouston Astros
September 4, 2024
Arrighetti was named the American League Rookie of the Month for August on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
The rookie right-hander was inconsistent through his first 19 big-league starts as he closed July with a 5.58 ERA through 92 innings, but he got on track in August and posted a 1.95 ERA, 0.90 WHIP and 47:10 K:BB across 32.1 innings. Arrighetti had a 3-2 record during the month but posted double-digit strikeouts in three of his five starts. The 24-year-old should stick in the rotation for the rest of the season, with Ronel Blanco likely to move to the bullpen for the stretch run. A strong finish could have Arrighetti in the mix to make postseason starts, though right now he may be on the outside looking in for a pared-down playoff rotation.
