Continuing career in Korea
Oh (elbow) agreed to a one-year contract Wednesday with the Samsung Lions of the Korea Baseball Organization on a deal worth approximately $490,000, Jeeho Yoo of the Yonhap News Agency reports.
ANALYSIS
On the heels of a four-season stint in MLB, Oh will return overseas after the Rockies released him July 28. He'll miss the remainder of the KBO season while recovering from elbow surgery, but Oh is expected to re-sign with the Lions over the winter and return to action at some point in May. While he's on the mend, Oh will be able to serve a 72-game suspension he received for a prior gambling-related conviction in Korea. Oh turned 37 years old in July and seems unlikely to resurface in North America at this stage of his career.

A rough 2017 season had Oh's stock trending downward heading into 2018, but he proved the doubters wrong by quietly producing a strong campaign. After signing with the Blue Jays in the offseason, "The Final Boss" rewarded them with a 2.68 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 55:10 K:BB in 47 innings. This strong showing made him a somewhat hot commodity when the trade deadline came around, and he wound up getting dealt to the Rockies. Despite the hitter-friendly environment, he fared well in his new digs. Oh actually had a lower ERA with Colorado (2.53) than he did with Toronto, and maintained a strong 24:7 K:BB in 21.1 frames. There was talk of Oh possibly returning to South Korea in 2019, but the Rockies are expecting him back to help set up for closer Wade Davis. Davis will have a long leash and Oh's strikeout numbers aren't gaudy enough to elevate him into the ranks of elite setup men.
