2020
Seattle brought Margevicius in on a waiver claim after San Diego designated him for assignment in January of 2020. Margevicius ended up taking the ball 10 times for the Mariners, including seven starts, and while his numbers do little to excite, Margevicius did what he was brought in to do: eat innings capably. A slight velocity bump led to an uptick in strikeout rate, but it was still only 21.2%. Margevicius does not have a put-away pitch and he has had trouble with the long ball so far in his big-league career (1.65 HR/9). The good news is that he does not shoot himself in the foot with walks. The Mariners are still not quite ready to compete and Margevicius will likely be up-and-down and back-and-forth in a swingman role. Don't expect him to be a big part of the turnaround.
Margevicius made 29 starts between Double-A and the majors last season, and his performance at both stops was forgettable. He had a 1.8 HR/9 and a 13.9 K-BB% in Double-A, and a 1.9 HR/9 and 8.8 K-BB% in the big leagues. The low K-BB% is more driven by the fact the soft-tossing lefty doesn't strike out enough hitters as he has been very stingy with walks throughout his collegiate and professional careers. He simply lacks a plus pitch, so he relies upon excellent command to set up hitters. When that command falters, or he has to come into the zone, that is when he gets hurt by opposing batters. He will be a guy that will have to pitch his way into a relief role if he's to crack the major-league roster in 2020, as the needs in the rotation won't be as great as they were in 2019.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Set for bullpen role?
PSeattle Mariners
November 29, 2021
Margevicius, who was shut down in September following shoulder surgery, could be ticketed for a bullpen role in 2022 with the Mariners adding Robbie Ray to the rotation Monday.
ANALYSIS
Ray signed a five-year, $115 million contract, per Jeff Passan of ESPN.com, and will slot in as the team's ace. Marco Gonzales could serve as the No. 2 pitcher, and Chris Flexen and Logan Gilbert are also in the mix for rotation spots. Margevicius and Justin Dunn currently look like options for the final rotation spot, though one or both may shift to the bullpen, particularly if Seattle adds more starters this offseason.
