2025 Projections
2025 Fantasy Outlook
Nunez made the Nationals' roster as a Rule 5 pick but played sparingly because he was both terribly inexperienced as well as could only play the positions manned by the two best players (Abrams & Garcia Jr) on the team last season. The Nationals wanted to hold onto Nunez after watching him steal 122 bases in the Marlins system over the previous two seasons and can now send Nunez to Triple-A in 2025 to continue his development with regular playing time. Nunez, despite his inexperience at the upper levels, had an impressive 15.4% walk rate in his 78 plate appearances, continuing a skill he showcased throughout his time in the Florida system. It will be interesting to see how well Nunez does in Triple-A this season resuming his on base skills and showcasing his speed with regular playing time because he can absolutely fly. Perhaps a move to centerfield might be in the future as Abrams nor Garcia Jr appear to be going anywhere anytime soon. Read Past Outlooks
Starting for demoted Abrams
Nunez will start at shortstop and bat ninth in Sunday's game against the Cubs.
ANALYSIS
Nunez will close the weekend with consecutive starts at shortstop after he went 1-for-3 in Saturday's 5-1 win. With the Nationals optioning CJ Abrams to Triple-A Rochester on Saturday, Nunez could take on an everyday role in the middle infield during the final week of the regular season.
