ANALYSIS
Duffy used to be a top prospect in the Astros system and even won the Pacific Coast League MVP award in 2015, but a sluggish 2016 campaign got him DFA'd by two different teams. The 27-year-old will head to Japan for the year to try to build up more future interest, although it's unclear how long he intends to stay overseas.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2016
2015
Not to be confused with San Francisco's third baseman with the same name, Duffy experienced a breakout season of his own in 2015, earning MVP honors in the Pacific Coast League. The 26-year-old hit .294/.366/.484 with 20 home runs and 104 RBI in 127 games for Triple-A Fresno and earned his first taste of the big leagues as a mid-September callup. Houston has a crowded infield, but don't discount Duffy getting a chance to win the Astros' starting job at third base this spring. From an offensive standpoint, he could be an upgrade over Luis Valbuena, but Colin Moran also lurks as the potential long-term option for Houston at the hot corner.
Duffy, a 20th-round pick of the Astros in the 2011 draft, has advanced quickly through Houston's farm system, displaying his power potential at every stop in the minors thus far. In 136 games between Double-A Corpus Christi and Triple-A Oklahoma City last season, he hit .288/.336/.451 with 18 home runs and 84 RBI over 517 at-bats. Duffy doesn't yet appear to be a threat to Matt Dominguez's starting role at third base, but a solid camp and a hot few months at Triple-A could earn him some playing time in Houston before the 2015 season is over.
