'Fully committing' to football
Murray is "firmly and fully committing [his] life and time to becoming an NFL quarterback," the two-sport athlete announced on his personal Twitter account Monday.
ANALYSIS
This appeared to be the direction Murray had been heading in all winter after declaring for the NFL draft and accepting an invitation to the NFL combine. Reports in previous months left open the possibility that Murray would nevertheless try to keep a window open to play both sports, but his announcement that he is "dedicating 100% of [himself] to being the best QB possible" doesn't seem to leave room for a second career. The decision is a blow to the Athletics, who picked Murray ninth overall in the 2018 draft.

2019 Fantasy Outlook
Murray is not the best prospect from the 2018 draft, but is certainly the most famous, and in the end, may not even choose to play pro baseball. The dual-threat quarterback won the Heisman Trophy following an electric junior season for Oklahoma, which came after he was selected by the A's with the No. 9 overall pick in June. He slashed .296/.398/.556 with 10 home runs, 10 steals (on 14 attempts) and a 56:28 K:BB in 189 at-bats in 2018. Those numbers are particularly impressive considering all the at-bats he has missed out on due to his football career. His strikeout total aligns with scouting reports that suggest there would be some swing-and-miss issues against pro pitching, at least initially. He has impact speed on the bases and in center field and could develop 20-homer power. An early-January report suggesting Murray will enter the NFL draft should force dynasty-league managers to move him way down or completely off their boards.
