Kyle McGowin

McGowin was called up for the final month of the regular season in 2020 and pitched relatively well over a limited sample. He began with six consecutive scoreless outings before struggling in his last three appearances. He finished the year with a 4.91 ERA, and his 3.25 SIERA and 3.75 xFIP were each the best marks of his career at the major-league level. McGowin has a low-wattage fastball velocity, but he leans heavily on his slider and shows dominance over opposing hitters. The righty posted an elite 19.5% swinging-strike rate and 33.3 K% in 2020 and has averaged a 10.9 K/9 over his last three years in the majors. He struggles to keep balls on the ground with a 28.6 GB%, but only 21.4% of his pitches were hit above 95 mph. McGowin is less of a household name than some other pitchers in the Nationals' bullpen, but he has elite strikeout numbers and could earn setup opportunities.
