ANALYSIS
Centeno will provide the Diamondbacks with some backstop depth at the Triple-A level again in 2023. The 33-year-old slashed .305/.355/.512 with 15 homers over 91 games with Triple-A Reno and Double-A Amarillo in 2022.

Centeno has been regarded more as a defensive catcher, but he showed some life a the plate last season with a .705 OPS and .751 OPS against right-handed pitchers. His bat isn't strong enough to be a starter, but he could win a backup role again after signing with Houston.
Centeno has been regarded more as a defensive catcher, and his short stint in the majors in May proved that statement correct. In 23 plate appearances, he managed to collect only one hit before being sent back down to Triple-A Colorado Springs. He hit .295 in Triple-A, but his nine extra-base hits in 187 plate appearances is less than desirable. Centeno signed a minor league deal with the Twins and may spend all year in the minors.
A 32nd-round pick in 2007, Centeno is a testament to the value of a quality defensive backstop in major league baseball, no matter how light-hitting they may be. In his eight professional seasons, Centeno has managed three -- yes, three -- home runs, with batting lines of .283/.332/.346 and .298/.345/.355 at Double-A (107 games) and Triple-A (120 games), respectively. He's never driven in more than 35 runs in a season and has done little with his major league opportunities to this point (9-for-40). However, the Brewers, seeking a serviceable defender for organizational depth, grabbed Centeno off waivers from the Mets at the end of October, and he could break camp with the big club if Milwaukee keeps three catchers to begin the year. That said, Jonathan Lucroy and Martin Maldonado are the clear top options, and Centeno's ineffectiveness with the bat puts him well off any fantasy radars.
